Current projects:
Our new project – ”Combating hate crime in Ukraine through legal action”
Goal in this project is to facilitate access to justice to victims of hate crimes in Ukraine.
In the framework of this project we plan to:
1) Increase awareness among the at-risk groups of the population across Ukraine on the phenomenon of hate crime, legal instruments available to prosecute perpetrators of hate crime
2) Improve identification of the incidents of hate crime across Ukraine
3) Make high quality legal advice and assistance available to victims of hate crime in Ukraine
4) Encourage victims to report incidents to relevant service providers and in particular to law enforcement authorities and pursue cases in order to achieve effective investigation of the incidents, adequate prosecution of perpetrators and assertion of the victims’ rights
5) Identify and analyse gaps and deficiencies of relevant laws and regulations as well as practice of their application by national and local authorities
6) In cooperation with other NGOs engage in advocacy efforts and strategic litigation with the aim of countering or marginalising structural conditions that were identified as preventing victims of hate crime from accessing justice in Ukraine.
Our main target groups in this project are international students, refugees and asylum seekers, migrant workers and members of LGBT community.
“No Borders” project kindly asks all interested parties to spread information about our work through all available channels to representatives of at-risk groups and encourage people to approach us if they report any incidents of hate crime to you. We will also very be grateful to receive information about hate crimes.

It is our understanding that a key to combating such a serious problem as hate crime in Ukraine is pursuing prosecution of such incidents by means of due legal process. However, we also understand that facing the consequences of hate crime alone may constitute a serious challenge for the victim and it is even more difficult for her to pursue legal steps against the perpetrators within the framework of Ukrainian legal environment which unfortunately still falls short on meeting the needs and protecting the rights of a victim. Bearing in mind the sensitivity of the victims’ situation we undertake to help them in pursuing justice, which is the necessary prerequisite for success in fighting racism and xenophobia in Ukraine and not just a remedy to an individual victim.
